If men think it’s complicated to find a wedding ring, they don’t know the half of it.  Most women are faced with the daunting task of finding a wedding ring that not only fits their taste and budget, but also fits the shape and style of their engagement ring.  So ladies, these are tips specifically for you to help you in your search for the perfect wedding band.

1) Note the Band Edge. When you’re shopping for a wedding ring that matches your engagement ring, the first thing you should take note of is the edge-shape of your engagement ring’s band.  The best matches match the shape of the band.  The most popular engagement ring band shapes are :

  • Softly rounded
  • High domed/Dome rounded
  • Flat

2) Note the Diamond Setting. If your engagement ring has lots of side stone diamonds or features a band set with diamonds, take note of the diamond setting.  You might want to consider a matching diamond eternity band with a diamond setting that matches.  For example, if your engagement ring has channel set diamond side stones, a channel set diamond eternity ring would be a perfect match!

3) Curved vs. Straight. Most simple solitaire engagement ring bands are straight and can be paired with plain, straight wedding bands.  However, some engagement rings set the center diamond deep and low in the metal which makes it difficult for a straight wedding band to sit comfortably below it. Many engagement rings with large halo designs around the center stone, for example, fit best with curved wedding bands.

4) Customize. Some engagement rings have special designs that curve, twist, swirl, or simply widen.  These can be difficult to match with regular straight wedding bands or your typical curved wedding band.  If you have a unique engagement ring design and you would like to wear your wedding ring on the same finger, consider a custom wedding ring design.

5) Width is Key. When you are shopping for a wedding ring, always take into consideration the width of your engagement ring.  It may sound strange, but you should calculate the amount of room you have left on your finger between the base and the knuckle after measuring your engagement ring so that you can ensure your wedding ring fits comfortably.  Also, many women want the two rings to be proportionate to one another.  The best matches match in with, shape and size. Generally, jewelers recommend that a women’s wedding ring be either the same width or only slightly wider than their engagement ring band.
